3 people were injured late Sunday evening ( 14th of August)in a drive by shooting at 6 flags in Gurnee, Illinois. The location is 45 miles away from Chicago. According to the authorities , none of the victims died. Furthermore, none of them have suffered life threatening wounds.
Gurnee, Illinois, is the home of the Six Flags amusement park as well as the Great Wolf Lodge and Gurnee Mills. The location is a popular family venue.
Local Police Department stated they received several 911 calls around 19:50 reporting gunshots outside the theme park. Officers quickly arrived to the scene and learned the suspect vehicle had already fled the scene. In addition, the security guard at Six Flags comments:“The shooting this evening was not a random act, and appeared to be a targeted incident that occurred outside the park. This was not an active shooter incident inside the park”
The amusement park also issued a statement to WGN Chicago around the security measures in place at the park : “Six Flags dedicates our greatest amount of time, talent and resources to safety and security. Layers of preventative measures both inside and outside the park are in place for the protection of guests and team members. We continue to review and enhance our protocol on a daily basis to ensure we are providing the highest level of safety.”
The popular family venue further describes their security systems as a broad range of security cameras – inside and out the park – as well as multiple security guards wearing regular clothes. In addition to this, the company claims that advanced screening technology allows them a more agile approach to incident response.
In the 6 flags shooting, amongst the victims, a 17 year old male from Aurora, IL , is currently in Advocate Condell Medical center. The young patience suffered an upper thigh wound. Another victim, 19 year old female from Appleton, Wi also suffered a lower leg wound. The final victim is suffering from a shoulder injury and declined hospitalization.
Currently there is a police investigation on going.
